The Show

Never in a million years would you guess where we were today.  

The parking lot was full, there were lots of people and the facility itself was quite large.  Here's a picture of about 10% of the space allocated to judging.

This is a two day show and I guess it's a pretty big show by California standards.  The judging goes on for the full two days and it's quite a convoluted process.  We stopped by one of the judging stations and the judge spent no more than a minute or two with each entry.  She was judging almost non-stop as cats were brought to [and removed from] the cages behind her.   You guessed it, it's a cat show!  The lighting was poor and I didn't dare use a flash so these pictures are the best of the lot.

The lady in pink is a judge and we saw many different types of cats during the short time we were at her judging station.  The last was a hairless cat [with big ears, I might add].  In the next picture, the judge is trying to get the cat's attention, but you know how cats are...  

Interestingly enough, she was able to handle the different cats very smoothly and efficiently, but I guess that's why these particular cats were allowed; they didn't have an attitude.

The cats came in many colours, shapes and sizes but this next one was by far my favorite; just look at those spots! 

 

Almost everywhere in the large hall, cats were being transported to and from the different judging stations.  This was really the best opportunity to examine these pampered beasts.  Some were very cute,

while others were somewhat less so, in my humble opinion.

There were many vendors selling all manner of feline related toys, jewelry, food, medicines, etc.  It's an entirely different world out there!

There were also quite a few different cat rescue organizations offering cats for adoption.  While perusing the aisles, we also noted that there was a judging class for rescued cats, what a great idea!

All in all, quite a different and worthwhile experience.  I'm sure there's the makings of a movie like Best of Show', except this time it would be for cats.  

Which reminds me, there was a section for judging 'agility'.  They had a large screened area with hoops, bridges, ramps, ladders, tunnels and the usual agility props all set up for cats.  One man was trying to interest this particular cat in following the feather-on-a-stick around the course.  Cats can have a mind of their own, and this one didn't seem interested in an agility test at that particular moment...  Quelle surprise!  Get a dog!
