Earlier today we tried to beat the heat by visiting the Lakes Park municipal park. In past years the bird nests were abundant and the small islands on these lakes had many trees suitable for nesting.
Last summer's hurricane did quite a number in the park and we saw many fallen trees and missing vegetation. We did manage to see this Great Blue Heron sitting nearby watching and protecting her/his nest from possible predators such as Osprey or Hawks. Nothing better to do than preen, right?
Further along the park, we found this Anhinga drying its wings.
Back to our Great Blue Heron for a look at what a brisk wind does to the coif. Bad Hair...
Ali and Joan spotted this lounging alligator on a small tuft of land.
On previous visits, we would see this 1/8 scale train with happy children going by.
This year, we stopped into the small railway museum and Ali announced that we were going for a train ride.
Here are Joan and Ali, on board, just waiting to leave the station.
The seats were surprisingly comfortable and the ride itself was a hoot. We rode through a railway village or two, where things were not exactly to scale. Some small houses had fairly large porcelain cats and such on their lawns. There was much to see, point out, and laugh about.
The total ride was likely around two miles long, and it was entertaining all along the route. Thanks Ali.
Just proves once again that you're never too old to have a blast. I wish you the same.
