Christmas flowers can be grown quite differently down here in Southern Florida. This happy Christmas Cactus was thrown up in the crotch of this oak tree just down our street and is blooming gloriously.
Hibiscus plants grow into large bushes and are just coming into bloom for the season. Sure beats looking at snow...
We have a pond just beyond the end of the block and these mallards were likely expecting food. Maybe next time, or better still, maybe not. They really do not need the sugar in bread chunks.
The next two pictures are thought to be Muscovy ducks. I think their feathers act like prisms to enhance their colours, much like a hummingbird does. Nothing small about these guys since they are considerably larger than mallards.
A slight change of direction and a big change in colour.
Have not been to the usual birding haunts yet, but the nearby Bald Eagle nest is completely gone with no sign of rebuilding nearby that we could find. We will keep looking.
