Last Days on Boat

As we left Birmingham, we passed this glorious riot of colour right in the centre of the city.

As usual, pubs line the canal, too bad it was so early in the day...

We had to return through our mile-long tunnel.  Using flash, these two pictures were made of the stalactites built over the centuries, yes, centuries.

Many villages had village greens; this one was the biggest we saw.

Canals used to be privately owned and competition was intense: this guillotine was used to shut the water off to a competitor's canal.  It seems that in business, something never change...

Here's a shot from the canal boat as it goes over a highway, imagine that!

Maybe it's time to get off the boat; here come the party boys...

It took more than a few minutes to get things organized enough to stuff the car.  Opening the hatch was dangerous to your health...

On the way to Tracy and Philip's, we detoured to Stratford upon Avon to visit a bit.  This is the court jester that welcomed up to where Billy Shakespeare was born.

This is Shakespeare's house.

... and a close-up of an upstairs window with a costumed tour leader.

In the same area, I liked this timber house and cask.

We've seen thousands of windows, many with stories to tell; here's a little plastic rose adding a smile to many onlookers.

This is one of those really old houses that just keep on standing despite centuries of occupants.

With Horses here and there, it wasn't very long that Joan had a new friend.

Quite a few years ago, Joan did a cross-stitch of this Hathaway Cottage.

So that's it for our boat ride, now we're land based until Wednesday when we fly home.  More to follow...
