No pixels were disturbed today, the focus was to get home quickly. After a crack of dawn of 8am, we just drove until we reached home at 6:30pm, more than an hour before Carmen's prediction.
The Border crossing was quick even though the back-up seemed to be half-way across the Ambassador bridge in Detroit.
The Customs guy made some comments about Stittsville, asked us the usual questions, [omitting the one about any plants,] and we were whisked homeward quickly.
The 401 had a bunch of fairly serious snow squalls between Windsor and Toronto; some that seriously limited visibility but the group we were traveling with had headlights [and tail lights] on and we managed to keep shaving some time off out ETA. While we stopped for gas and breaks a few times, we still managed to keep shaving time off the ETA.
In Belleville, Carmen took us up to highway 7, a slower route maybe, but a shorter route. As it turns out, the group we travelled with exceeded the speed limit by even more than those on the 401. We shaved off more than an hour off our original ETA, arriving at 6:20 instead of 7:38pm. Even after a few gas-ups and breaks, How cool is that?
We had more snow squalls on highway 7, but the road remained dry except where they were spreading salt as if it was free... Fortunately, we got ahead of the salt truck where the road was still fairly dry, and kept motoring. All in all, a quick and fairly comfortable trip.
There was some snow along the 401, getting a little more serious as we were on highway 7. As we neared home, we noticed snow banks and more snow in the fields. Our front lawn is snow covered and with sub-zero temperatures with wind-chills of -30ºC, the lawn will not appear anytime soon.
Our neighbours welcomed us with a glass of wine, very warm hugs, many humorous stories that we had missed, and gave us some breakfast fixings for tomorrow: we're home!
