One of the things about transit travel, is that a good audio-book or two, can make time and distance disappear, or become irrelevant. Today was that kind of day. A 9:00am departure and a 7:00pm arrival were essentially the only time progress marks of note.
We did stop three times for gas refills of less than $30 for a full tank, and a few comfort stops, but other than that, time and miles just faded away as we listened to some audio books. When traffic got heavy, we just turned off the books in favour of silence as we drove through complex interchanges and directional changes.
All in all, we just listened to Carmen as she chose a different way home. It was supposed to be faster, and likely was. We drove through new territory and saw new landscapes. Unfortunately, no pixels were arranged for your perusal.
Our morning involved nearly a hundred miles of rich horse country, with all the white fences and green fields that entails. Of course, fields with happy horses, parking areas filled with horse trailers, and the occasional rider in the fields were definitely a distraction from the audio books...
After a while, the scenery changed from hilly scrubland to very flat land, from a geographic and interest point of view. As we drove northward and eastward, things flattened out even more and the traffic became more truck oriented with the speed limits reducing to 70 and 65mph. There was very little speeding going on, but we still managed to shave off a little time while driving one or two miles per hour beyond the limit. So far so good.
The weather has been very favourable today; the smoke from yesterday has all but disappeared, and we drove in bright and warm sunshine all day. The outdoor temperatures went to 25ºC and it is still comfortable at 9:30pm. I think we can squeeze by the heavy weather forecast for the end of this week. Let's hope so.
