Crack of dawn was at 8:30 today and with speed limits of 78 and 80 mph, we managed to cover lots of ground. As usual, lots of mountains with high level plains [4000'] and much lower plains. Temperatures pretty well mirrored the altitude; we had frost last night, and a daylight high of around 18C [65F]. The north side of mountains had a little snow which the sun dispatched quickly.
The rocky picture was made at a rest area along the Interstate in New Mexico. I hope it gives you a rough idea of the size of some of these boulders that overhang the highway in places. The second picture is one of Joan reading in front of the fireplace downstairs. We have a room at the Hotel Limpia in Fort Davis Tx. It's a very old historic hotel in a small town of 4000, on one of the windier state roads of Texas. Since the interstate, we've been climbing along this almost deserted road and we're now at 4000' so it will get cold tonight. We're right in the mountains and the scenery is beautiful, [when I get a chance to peek away from the driving chores]. We're on out way to Big Bend National Park before resuming our eastward route towards Mel and Ron in Westlaco.
