After a very late start [caused by a very good Holiday Inn free breakfast buffet], we made good time in the rain which lasted until mid morning. We stopped for gas in Gila Bend where we discovered the birthplace of many garage sales.
All the stuff came from Mexico, most of which was unreasonably expensive. This is an example of one of the sunbursts available.
Next is Joan cruising the wares.
These large horses reminded us of the metal sculptures in the Anza Borego desert.
The large horse sculpture even had eyelashes! [click on picture to see a larger version of all pictures.
The first thing that greets you when you enter California is this wonderful off-road vehicle playground; miles of sand dunes where you can run your 4X4, Jeep, ATV, dirt bike, etc. The bad part is the lack of any dune without dozens or hundreds of tire tracks, not great for photography.
This is something you don't see often, a broken wind turbine.
This next picture shows the large wind farm in Ocotillo, with an ocotillo plant in the foreground.
If you look at a larger view, you can see the chain of wind turbines on the crest of these mountains.
We arrived at Kathleen and Phillip's by mid afternoon, the car's unloaded, and lots of our stuff has been put away. There will be stuff missing, and then pop-up where you least expect it.
Pally is already accepting our presence, while Maverick has definitely found two new people to pet him...
This new year is definitely unfolding as it should. We hope yours is too.
