Our friend Jan is up from Nokomis for a few days, so it was time for new adventures. It was supposed to be cool and windy yesterday, so a trip to Naples was planned. We drove the coastal route, the Tamiami Trail, which is a continuous shopping experience. It also has continuous traffic punctuated with a gazillion traffic lights. We stopped in Bonita Springs to check out the beach where many good shells were found. The wind was constant, the waves were huge, and our legs got sandblasted.
Later we stopped for lunch at CJ's where the fish strips and fries were huge, filling, and very good. So much for supper, but I digress.
We finally arrived in Naples and tried to find a beach access: unfortunately, beach parking costs $8 and it was late afternoon... We did some rubber-necking and found a park with a boat launch at the southern tip of the Island. The next two pictures were shot from the boat launch area. Each monster home has its own mooring on the network of short canals. Note that outboard motors come in sets of four...
This short pier had a bunch of Pelicans sunning themselves in the brisk wind.
I gather pelicans are curious too.
Closer to a building behind us, this little white Ibis was busy preening. Breeding feathers make it look like a bad hair day, but make for a more interesting look.
And finally, a nap was in order...
Our trip back was on the Interstate while the sun was setting, and we arrived just in time for some Netflix.
