We went to supper at old friends in Palazzo where friendships took off where we left off last winter. We ate well, were treated royally and met their new puppy: Jackson. They added Jackson to their family only 5 days earlier and it really is obvious that love conquers all. While quite active and very interested in lenses, this 10 week old pup loved people and will fit right in quickly.
On Wednesday, we did the Ding Darling Driving Tour where we fought cold winds and met new people. The usual birds were out there, just slightly out of reach for a decent shot.
Joan stayed close to the spotting scope and learned a fair bit about identifying birds: that will come in handy.
This Green Heron was hiding in plain sight but well camouflaged. A minute earlier, he was farther from the water, perched on a low branch of a bush, and we would not have spotted him without the direction of a photographer who was just leaving. After a bit, the heron moved closer to the water for much better hunting.
I managed to snap this somewhat fuzzy picture as he spiked the water for lunch, but came up empty.
As we were leaving the area, these Roseate Spoonbills were gathered not too far away. These are large birds, and it seems strange to me that they often perch in trees.
Here is a closer view of those just lounging around. You can see one showing off his strange beak, right in the middle of the picture.
Apparently, these birds are actually coloured this way naturally as opposed to the Flamingos that get their pink colour from what they eat.
Our spare bathroom had issues with the water supply to the tub/shower, that we discovered yesterday. Our landlord set us up with a good plumber who gave us a high priority and new fixtures are now working and all's well. What is truly amazing is that the landlord was in Sweden at the time...
