The Whale Watch

Saturday, 1:30 p.m. and it's time to leave the harbour and go whale watching [with a few hundred other people on 'our' boat].

Here's the view of San Diego Habour as we left it. There's a cruise ship at the dock, right beside where we were docked, just a few minutes ago. Big sucker!

Some harbour cruises involve sailing ships like this one, coming back into the harbour.

We were over an hour away from port when this appeared, a few hundred yards away.

Pretty neat! It was a grey whale, heading south to Mexico, probably to give birth in the warmer waters. I have other pictures, but they don't really give you much more information than the three above.

Here's a picture of Kathleen and Phillip while we were heading back to port.

On the way back, we saw hundreds of birds flocked in a relatively small area. It turns out they were feeding on these little fish that were flying out of the water and making all the splashes that you see in the foreground. [double click to enlarge]

Here's the proverbial boat sailing into the sunset. Ok, ok, sailing out of the sunset.

This is just one of the dozens of marinas in San Diego Harbour, each one seemed bigger than the last...
